(Bloomberg) -- The developer of Europe’s biggest onshore wind park in Sweden has its eyes on a new milestone in renewable energy. The wind power developer Svevind AB is planning to build Europe’s largest wind power park in the area of Markbygden in the municipality of Piteå. Svevind originally proposed to install 440 turbines for a total capacity of 1.3GW in phase two of the Markbygden wind power project, and it was granted permission for the same in February 2016. Enercon has revised the project plan to install less than half the number of turbines for a total capacity of approximately 850MW.
Svevind Solutions’ parent company, Svevind, has been heavily involved in the development of these new large-scale sites, including the 4GW Markbygden project in Northern Sweden. The project, set to be the largest in Europe when completed, covers an area over 450km 2 and consists of 1101 turbines which will provide 6.6% of Sweden’s total energy production.
